Safety Inspection
Visual inspection of the pole and its attachments plays a critical role in our overall inspection process. By identifying needed repairs and potential hazards that exist, Bellwether helps keep you in solid shape! This inspection is performed at all poles, including foreign poles that have the client's electrical system attached. Ensuring the safety and security of the utility is Bellwether's goal in successful pole line management.
Wood Testing and Remedial Treatment
Bellwether's inspectors utilize time-proven techniques in the discovery of wood decay – even at its earliest stages. If detected early, wood decay can be controlled through external and/or internal treatment. Unlike others, Bellwether's practice is to treat each pole individually based on condition, rather than by assumptions from the age of the pole. This is why Bellwether encourages wood pole owners to conduct wood testing
on a cycle relative to the temperature and humidity that their pole plant is subjected to.
GIS Data Collection and Delivery
Accurate data is the key. Bellwether provides the most accurate tabular and geographic data possible through the collection of inspection data into a customized ESRI ArcPad application. Bellwether runs this application in combination with Trimble GPS Correct software on Trimble GeoXT handheld computers. The use of these advanced tools enables our inspectors to provide reliable data and maintain productivity, even in harsh conditions.
The complete set of data can be delivered to clients in a range of detail levels and formats. Inspection and location data can be provided in a digital GIS shape-file format and in Microsoft® Access. The map projection of the GIS data can be created in the client's choice of formats. Data is made available via the Bellwether FTP site or by an ActiveSync connection to the client's desktop computer. Traditional paper print-out
of the data is also available as needed.
